Second edition of this magnificent and rarely complete set of plates. – Excellent, sharply inked impressions on heavy laid paper. In 1769, Morghen published the 40 plates of „Le Antichità di Pozzuoli, Baja e Cuma“, a volume designed especially for travellers and connoisseurs and dedicated to the „Society of Encouragement of Arts, Manifactures and Commerce“, to which many British noblemen belonged and whose names appear in the dedications on the lower margin of many of the plates. This set of plates was a great success and saw two further editions (1803 and 1816). – The complete work as offerd here is absolutely rare. – Somewhat stained. The last 7 leaves with partly backed worm trace in the white upper margin. Otherwise in good condition.
